Famous blue plate specials like homemade meat-loaf and farm-raised catfish, plus great steak and seafood. Try the shrimp and grits Charleston style or a Northshore salad featuring cranberries and candied pecans.

From the YUMMM! Restaurant Guide:

If by some odd chance you haven’t yet dined at Sullivan’s Fine Food, then owner Charles Irvine has a very simple message for you: “Fresh, homemade food, using made-from-scratch recipes.”

That’s the enticing formula he’s used to create some of Knoxville’s most cherished restaurants, offering upscale Southern cuisine in an upscale atmosphere that’s friendly and inviting. It’s a winning combination that’s proven so popular that he’s recently opened a third Sullivan’s at Franklin Square in West Knoxville.
But let’s talk about the food. Everything at Sullivan’s is made from the highest-quality ingredients, from the organically grown grits to the fresh seafood that’s delivered daily. Sullivan’s choice steaks are cut by their own butcher. Even their fried selections are personally hand-breaded before cooking—they’re never frozen.

You’re not going to lack for choices on the Sullivan’s menu, and your only difficulty may be in having to decide which items you want to order the most. Start with an appetizer—new to the menu is the Beef-Tip Martini: grilled beef tenderloin over mashed potatoes with marsala mushroom gravy and garnished with onion rings.

The specialties of the house range from mesquite-grilled center-cut sirloin and aged Colorado filet mignon to seafood options like the Almond Crusted Flounder or the Shrimp Charleston (spicy gulf shrimp sautéed and served over creamy, stone-ground grits and drizzled with a Tabasco cream sauce). An especially mouth-watering new addition to the poultry menu is Chicken Athena, featuring a chicken breast stuffed with spinach and asiago cheese, wrapped in a puff pastry and baked, then topped with a roasted garlic herb sauce.

And let’s not forget about the salads and sandwiches. Charles Irvine is especially proud of his Northshore Salad, a blend of mesquite-grilled chicken, fresh greens with candied pecans, Craisins, and feta cheese, all served with a balsamic vinaigrette. Sullivan’s creates its own unique sandwiches, too, like the Rocky Hill Club, with Tennessee “Pit” ham, all-natural turkey breast, and candied bacon and cheddar cheese served on a french white baguette. And for the true down-home meal, you can’t miss with one of Sullivan’s famed blue-plate specials, featuring family recipes for such homestyle classics as meatloaf and pot roast and your choice of two delectable sides. (Charles’ personal favorite blue plate is the fried catfish with homemade tartar sauce.)

Each Sullivan’s Fine Food location has its own unique identity, but they all share a sense of community for their patrons, offering good value, high quality, and large portions!
