Iconic caterer and character Holly Hambright opened this extension of her much loved catering operation. Traditional and creative luncheon fare is served with a generous helping of Holly’s food magic, which makes this a must-eat stop in Bearden’s “The District." Look for whatever is fresh—the menu evolves with the seasons. The soup choices alone are worth a visit, while Hazel’s Chicken Salad, the only constant on the menu, merits many a return.

From YUMMM!, the Metro Pulse restaurant guide:

For many people, the name Holly’s Eventful Dining evokes a singular vision of high quality and inventive catering. For others the name is the name for creative lunch fare in Bearden. And yet, for the actual owner of the name, there’s even more to it. As Knoxville’s appetite for the homegrown and locally owned has increased, Holly Hambright’s efforts have grown from her original catering concern into two restaurants, and a developing provisions arm. Each one of these is a unique business that stays close to Holly’s signature style and always represents the best of what Holly brings to the table.

Holly’s careful to differentiate each of her concerns: there’s catering that comes from Holly’s Eventful Dining; Holly’s Homberg serves excellent fare in Bearden; and Holly’s Corner serves the same kind of great food while also celebrating the musical heritage of the Corner. In fact, Holly’s Corner may be the only live music lunch venue around. And then there’s Fatto a Mano, which is Italian for made by hand; it’s the soon-to-come business that will be the source for hard-to-find spices and other raw ingredients that Holly favors in her kitchens, like Shelton Farms corn meal and grits.

The progression of her business is rooted in a renaissance of rural neighborhood ethic and the drive to know more about food sources and providers; in the past, you knew the butcher, the baker, and the corner cop—now it’s important to know the people, the neighbors, who make your sandwich, soup, and Scotch eggs. And what has helped Holly’s business grow is that her longtime staff of misfits has evolved into a well-trained staff of misfits who share her unique vision of food and take pride in and personal responsibility for the business. It’s not surprising that almost every member of Holly’s team shares her love of the arts, and uses that passion to help make the world a more beautiful place. That’s something that shows in every bite that comes out of Holly’s kitchens.

Wherever Holly is, the future looks bright and active—you’ll just have to visit and keep track of her via social media to find more about her plans for Sing For Your Supper Sundays, expanded hours and breakfast, good music, great art, and who knows what else. But whatever it is, you can bet that it will be delicious, fun, and beautiful.
