The Café 4 team prepares delicious Southern comfort food with a gourmet twist, providing impeccable service and creating a dining experience for each guest that is one of enjoyment, comfort, and satisfaction. It also endeavors to be responsible, locally and globally, by cutting back on waste, recycling, and participating in local service groups. They have respect for the products they use and where they come from, and support local organic farming whenever possible. Also: live music next door at the Square Room.

From YUMMM!, the Metro Pulse restaurant guide:

Since its beginning, Café 4, Knoxville’s Urban Retreat, has distinguished itself by creating an atmosphere that celebrates essential values like community, art, and hospitality. And it remains a warm and welcoming place that’s always buzzing with the sound of friends and family engaged in conversation and communion. This spring, Café 4 looks forward to expanding its celebration of community in a deliciously edible fashion.
The restaurant’s menu has always featured fresh takes on traditional Southern comfort foods, but with the roll-out of the new Spring Menu, you’ll feel another waft of fresh air. As it reinforces its core value of community, Café 4 is dressing up its menu with creative dishes that feature locally and regionally sourced ingredients that represent the freshest and finest foods available.

And the search for all this good stuff starts in the Farmers’ Market, literally in the Café’s own front yard. From there the quest continues throughout Tennessee, then on to good neighbors in Kentucky, Virginia, North Carolina, and Georgia. After all, the South is full of good things to eat, so it just makes sense to source close to home.

The Chow Chow comes from Maynardville, cheese from Sweetwater, grits and cornmeal from North Carolina’s Lakeside Mills, and coffee from right here in Knoxville. You’ll be able to taste terra firma in locally grown vegetables, including Café 4’s own very local produce grown through a partnership with Knoxville’s Champion Farms.

The menu offerings will evolve with the season, especially in the restaurant’s Saturday Farm to Table features that will redefine your idea of weekend dining. But you can look forward to creative fare like Bone in Pork Chops with Apple Moonshine Chutney, or SawWorks’ Beer Brined Chicken with Braised Kale, White Cheddar Cornbread, Pickled Cherry Tomatoes and a Chili Molasses reduction. Your sandwich life will never be the same after you experience the Café’s new Pulled Pork Reuben with Cajun Dijonnaise, marbled rye, sauerkraut, and Gruyère. Local food never had it so good!

Whether you visit to join friends at table, enjoy beautiful music in the Square Room or relax in the café’s mezzanine to raise a glass to the ones you love, Café 4 is a place for nurturing life and the relationships that make it worth living. And it’s only natural that when you break bread at Café 4, you do it with the kind of food that’s good for you and an entire community, too.

Awesome restaurant! Love sitting on the patio on market square and sharing a Mac'n Cheese. The french onion and bacon mac'n cheese is crazy good and love the reuben. Honorable mention: Baby wedge salad, tennessee cheesesteak, strawberry salad, and pretty much anything from the bakery. The lady swears its better coffee than starbucks!
