This Farragut eatery, a self-described “locally owned and operated Southern gourmet restaurant,” serves breakfast until 11 am featuring unique and tasty plates like Bananas Foster Crepes, and Clifty Farm country ham with Red-Eye Gravy and homemade biscuits, delicious buttermilk pancakes, along with traditional breakfast items. Lunch is an equal mix of the creative and traditional from Black Bean Quesadillas to the Southern Turkey Burger with Pimento Cheese to Shrimp & Grits. Plus, don’t forget homemade desserts such as Banana Cream Cheese Cake (banana cake with cream cheese frosting, topped with salted caramel and sweet & salty toasted pecans—so good), Carrot Cake (moist and delicious with cream cheese frosting) and Candy Bar Cake (rich chocolate cake layered with fresh whipped cream and topped with crushed Snickers, Heath Bar and Butterfinger pieces, and rich chocolate sauce). Available for catered events in the evenings.
From YUMMM!, the Metro Pulse restaurant guide:
Running a restaurant is never easy, and that’s especially true if you make the daily effort to bake your breads and cook your specialties from scratch. That’s a big part of what makes Farragut’s Blue Sky Café special. You can find breakfast and lunch just about any old place, but it’s a real treat to have food that’s freshly made in a place owned by locals who use local products every chance they get.
Blue Sky’s menu is rooted in Southern food—but with a twist that adds an element of the gourmet without losing sight of its comfort-food roots. Breakfast features solid and traditional fare like pork chops and grits, red-eye gravy, tenderloin and steak biscuits, and of course, tender buttermilk pancakes. But you can also get a little fancy with the most important meal of the day and have one of the House specials. Country Benny takes eggs Benedict on a walk through the farm by using Clifty Farm’s country ham on top of the Café’s freshly baked biscuits with a dollop of homemade hollandaise. You can also get a little Continental and have that favorite country ham, egg and cheese on a light and buttery croissant.
The intersection of breakfast and lunch is at about 11 a.m. but there’s a little hold over in the form of the exceptional Blue Sky Quiche. This brunch-like staple is normally served like a flat little slice of pie, but the Blue Sky rendition is a steaming and rich casserole that will satisfy aficionados and even the “real men” who might normally eschew the quiche.
The lunch menu also offers a wide variety with appealing options for all ages and tastes. The Blue Sky Burger is available in 4 or 8-ounce portions, the Chicken Wrap can be had with fried or grilled chicken and there are delicious starters like Black Bean Hummus and a trio of house made pimento cheese. The menu includes salads and a number of specials featuring a comforting Shrimp and Grits with smoked Gouda. Potpie lovers will fall in love the Blue Sky’s rendition—it’s a hearty and warming vegetable laden stew tucked under a blanket of golden pastry.
Desserts are tempting and homemade: Banana Cream Cheese Cake, Carrot Cake and Candy Bar Cake compete for your sweet tooth’s attention alongside blackberry and peach cobblers.
With so much homemade food coming out of their kitchen, it’s impressive that the Café also offers a great catering service and can host catered events in the evening. It’s also the home of A Dinner A’Fare—a home meal replacement option where you can pick up a chef-inspired dinner for home or come early and help fix it in their kitchen. That means you can get three squares a day from the Blue Sky Café—and all of them with the taste of homemade.
