Located in the heart of the historic Old City, Barley’s serves up some of the best New York-style hand-tossed pizza in the region. Plus they offer a variety of other selections including huge calzones, pasta and appetizers like black bean hummus and hand-battered Buffalo fingers. Voted best beer selection by our readers, Barley’s has one of the most diverse beer selections in town. Enjoy your brew on the newly revamped patio, or listen to live music by local and national acts alike. Also featuring lunch specials every day. Full bar. No checks.

From the YUMMM! Restaurant Guide:

Barley’s Taproom and Pizzeria is one of those places that can use words like “best” and “finest” without exaggeration because those are honors that they’ve won time and time again. They regularly win, place, or show in Metro Pulse’s Best of Knoxville reader’s poll for Best Bar and they’ve won the Best Beer Selection category so many times that they qualify as grand champions. It doesn’t hurt that the place feels like a grand old beer hall, but it’s the selection of over 150 different beers that keep the votes coming. The beer selection rotates regularly and includes a wide variety of craft and high-gravity beer, but that’s not the only reason Barley’s makes a name for itself in Knoxville.

Of course, with that much beer around, it just wouldn’t feel right if there weren’t some great pizza handy, too. Barley’s serves their much-loved and award-winning version on a thin, sourdough crust that’s an appetizing base for the wide variety of beautiful things that go on top of it. You can make your own with regular toppings like pepperoni and Italian sausage or dress it up with some of Barley’s unique choices that include black beans, smoked sausage, and jerk chicken. The kitchen has recently added new items to the pasta and sandwich selections, and of course there are daily specials, too, so there’s something really tasty for everybody in the crowd.

Live music is a mainstay here: Barley’s presents an impressive variety of Americana, roots, and rock music from local, regional, and national acts. It’s pretty easy to get your band fix here since music fill the air six nights a week.

While it’s obvious why beer aficionados or music lovers enjoy hanging out here, Barley’s is an expansive place that appeals to a broad range of East Tennesseans. It’s large enough that at any given time you might find 21st birthday celebrations on Barley’s huge porch and a youth sporting league celebrating a winning season in the banquet room upstairs. Upstairs is also where you’ll find five full-size, regulation pool tables as well as video games of all sorts, from Golden Tee and Golden Strike to a little retro-fun with Donkey Kong and a table-top version of Ms. Pac-Man.

Barley’s has been an anchor of the Old City for more than a decade and one of the city’s favorite spots to spend Saturday night on the town or to take in a mellow Sunday afternoon feast of pizza and beer. And while you may not find dainty cocktails with herbal infusions and exotic root syrups here, you will find good honest drinks, a nice wine selection, and, of course, one of the best damn beer selections around. But you don’t have to believe everything you read—it’s pretty easy to go find out for yourself.

I believe the drink special is for happy-hour only, and not all the time every day.

My favorite pizza in town and best beer selection in town. A great place to relax and drink with friends on the top floor. If there is a band playing, which is very often, the music is good, but if want to talk go upstairs. A great local place--where I always bring out of towners.

One of my favorite places to see a show! Great beer selection and awesome pizza

The pizza is great, beer selection is fantastic, live bands are nice, too.

Only negative is that every time I have been, it's terrible service. Waiters deliver your pizza to another table... 5 minutes later you get the pizza passed over to you. Not to mention, once we had a waiter who would just randomly walk off as we were mid-sentence of ordering. silly.

The wait is always too long, and the service is some of the worst in town. The last visit we got our pizza after 45 mins and half the bottom was burnt black....at least it was free in the end. Honestly, I prefer Downtown Brewery....the Pizza is equally good, and service is far better. Barley's has better brew though.

Well, I always prefer being at Barley's Taproom. I like the pizza being served there, I agree they do get late in servings sometime but they taste amazing.
