  • Ellie Kittrell, left, and Ashley Klappholz hold a MUSE exhibit design scheme in front of the Knoxville Convention and Exposition Center, the building they hope will house the museum.
  • MUSE board members (from left) Christy Tyson, Marshanda Pinchok, and Sherae Patterson-Rubards discuss exhibit designs with Ashley Klappholz at Panera Bread.
  • Ellie Kittrell and Andrea Truan share thoughts on the MUSE designs while Toni Mealor (right) listens.
  • Designs and plans for the MUSE cover the table the board sits at during its meeting.
  • The East Tennessee Discovery Center was built around 1975 next to Chilhowee Park.
  • The Discovery Center’s play area for toddlers and younger children features a dated computer, puzzles, and books.
  • The original vision the Discovery Center had for the old convention center was packaged sleekly, but never came to life. Director Margaret Maddox still has a copy of the designs in her office.

Ellie Kittrell and Ashley Klappholz have been planning to fill what they feel is a gap in Knoxville's museum offerings with MUSE, a children's discovery center.
