The late Knoxville photographer Jan Lynch was known as a provocateur. After taking this photo of the three Knox County Commissioners who sponsored the anti-gay resolution—from left, Howard Pinkston, Fred Flenniken, and Robert Bratton—he made a flier out of the image and emblazoned it with Nazi imagery and the words: 'HOW DEMOCRACY FAILED.' He then papered it all over Fort Sanders, the UT campus, downtown, and the Old City.
