Corker Haslam Job Swap?

A longtime theory around Tennessee political circles got a boost last week when the Roll Call newspaper did a story quoting political operatives that Gov. Bill Haslam and U.S. Sen. Bob Corker may swap jobs in 2018.

The story says Corker is frustrated and is waiting to see if the Republicans get control of the Senate in the next two elections. If not he is said to be ready to move on when his term ends in 2018. Haslam will be term-limited after his second term ends in 2018.

Some folks back in Tennessee who deal with Corker’s office say he focuses on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and on banking reform and is a “national” senator rather than one who only focuses on issues back home. They think if Corker leaves the Senate it will be to run for president.
