Join Captain Greybeard and Quartermaster/Surgeon Anne Bonney on a pirate cruise. A prize will be offered for the best dressed pirate but costumes are not required. $25.

CADES COVE RUN/WALK AND PANCAKE BREAKFAST

Join us for 4, 8, or 11-mile run/walk for all levels, and afterwards, we’ll chow down on pancakes as we enjoy the beautiful scenery of Cades Cove. Bring something to share if you please.

STROLLER DERBY

Dirty Bird Events as a benefit for the Legacy Parks Foundation

9 am at the Outdoor Knoxville Adventure Center

This is going to be the family event of the year, so grab your son, daughter, niece, nephew, pet, or your smallest college buddy and let’s take a stroll through beautiful downtown Knoxville. Participants are strongly encouraged to push a stroller, but all runners are welcome to join the fun. This will be a 2.5-mile untimed event on greenways and sidewalks.

TUESDAY, JULY 1

BACKCOUNTRY ECOLOGICAL EXPEDITION- JUNE 23-28

Great Smoky Mountains Institute at Tremont

8 am at Great Smoky Mountains Institute

Explore relatively undisturbed areas of the park, conducting field experiments and keeping a record of your observations. You’ll explore creeks and hollows in search of the next organism new to the park or even to science! Ages 13-17.

KNOXIE CRITS SUMMER SERIES

Southern Cycling Operations and KnoxVelo

6 pm at Chilhowee Park

Wednesday night criterium training is ideal for cyclists interested in learning about racing in a safe, friendly environment. There will be four races (A, B, C, X levels) on an approximately 1 kilometer course, around the lake in front of the Jacobs building. Please use the Zoo entrance and park in front of the lake. All other entrances will be closed.

Seven Islands is now Tennessee’s first State Birding Park! We will hike a 3-5-mile loop with a guide to tell us about all the various wildlife that makes this area their home. Enjoy an optional lunch at Tuckahoe Trading Post after the hike.

Smoky Mountain DockDogs

6 Pm at Wild Wing Cafe

Bring your four legged friends with you and enjoy good food and company while watching members of Smoky Mountain DockDogs jump their dogs. If you want to give dock diving a try, members of SMDD will be on hand to assist you and share their love of this fabulous sport.

PILOT FIREBALL MOONLIGHT CLASSIC 5K

Knoxville Track Club

9 pm at University of Tennessee/Neyland Drive

The Pilot Fireball Classic 5K run and walk is a unique race that has something for almost everyone. Beginning in front of the University of Tennessee Veterinary School on Neyland Drive, the course skirts the UT campus, turning around at Neyland Stadium. The entire course is well lit, flat and fast. New this year is the Firecracker 1-Mile Kids Run, which begins at 8 pm.

Race Day Events

7:30 am at Barley’s Taproom & Pizzeria

Organized bike ride (NOT a race) offering 30, 50, 65, and 100-mile options. Ride starts and ends at Barley’s in Knoxville’s Old City, with routes that go south into Blount Co. Post ride festivities include pizza, beer, and Tour de France big screen viewing. Ride shirts, socks, and pint glasses to all, with finisher medals to 100-mile finishers.

CATALYST ADAPTIVE CLIMB

Catalyst Sports and the Climbing Center at River Sports Outfitters

9 am at River Sports Outfitters

Join us on the first Saturday of each month for an adaptive climbing clinic open to anyone with a physical disability. Catalyst Sports is a non-profit organization that encourages and inspires the disabled community to participate in sports. No mater how young or old you are, come on out and participate!

Splits into 2 groups: “A” ride - 20-30 miles at 18-21 mph pace and “B” ride at 14-17 mph (no one gets dropped)

Tuesday:

9 am at French Memorial Park with Smoky Mountain Wheelmen Bicycle Club

Social road ride - distance and time depends on riders - no one gets dropped

9:30 am at Knoxville Bicycle Company

Social 24-mile ride depending on group

10:30 am at Cycology Bicycles

30-40 miles splits into 2 groups: intermediate pace at 14/17 and fast at 18/20 mph

6:30 pm at Fireworks Store on Hickory Creek Rd (1-40 exit 369) with Knox Revolution Women’s Cycling Club

20-mile ride divides into 2 Groups: 11-14mph and 15-18mph. Road bikes only

30-35 miles at an 18/19 mph pace with regrouping

“A” Group rides 27-30 miles at a race pace of 22 mph

10-20 miles divides into three groups: “A” 18-20 mph, “B” 14-16 mph, and “C” beginner, no drop pace. Demo bikes available

6:15 pm at Echelon Bicycles (every other Wednesday)

15/17 mph for about 25 miles

Thursday:

9 am at French Memorial Park with Smoky Mountain Wheelmen Bicycle Club

Divides into groups covering all levels - 25-35 mile options, no drop. After ride: bring camp chair and something to grill with beverage of your choice.

6 pm at Coulter’s Bridge with Knox Revolution Women’s Cycling Club

Pace will be 10-14 mph (group C) route is 18-miles - no one gets dropped

6:15 pm at Echelon Bicycles

30-35 miles at an 18/19 mph pace with regrouping
