A group of conservatives in Middle Tennessee who are opposed to the Common Core curriculum are said to be looking for a candidate to oppose state Rep. Harry Brooks, R-Knoxville.
Brooks is chair of the House Education Committee and has voiced support for Common Core and raising standards for students. The conservative group has had no success so far in finding a candidate to oppose Brooks, who is popular in his district and is unlikely to be challenged by anyone with political credibility.
Brooks is a former Knox County school board member and has been a leader in Gov. Bill Haslam’s education-reform efforts.
