You’ve been to Memphis to see the ducks strut through the lobby of the Peabody Hotel, or you’ve heard about them. The Memphis ducks are safe, but their brethren at the Peabody in Little Rock are in danger of being someone’s duck dinner.
The Peabody in Little Rock was sold to Marriott with the stipulation that the duck gimmick would be banned, since it was a trademark for the Peabody hotels. The fate of the ducks has been a closely guarded secret, but word has gotten out that they were taken to a farm, and as Mallard are wont to do, they lit out to the wild.
The tame ducks, used to human interaction, are now fair game. The New York Times reports that that area of Arkansas accounts for 530,000 ducks taken by hunters each year.
