Burchett Event Makes Statement

If there was any doubt that Knox County Mayor Tim Burchett would cruise to re-election without a serious opponent, a look at his fund-raising invitation should dispel it. The guest list includes 175 people—and that’s just the host committee.

Those signing on include Chamber stalwarts like Jim Haslam, Sam Furrow, Rajah Jabran, and Randy Boyd. From former Knoxville Mayor Victor Ashe to Tennessee Conservative Union chief Lloyd Daugherty. Democrats like Mike Chase, Pete DeBusk, and former County Executive Tommy Schumpert. From both sides of the Black Wednesday affair, Paul Pinkston and Wanda Moody.

Downtown denizens Buzz Goss and Eddie Mannis, development attorneys John King, Arthur Seymour, and John Valliant.

The list represents just about any faction of Knox County that might be fertile ground for an opponent for Burchett. There isn’t anybody left who’s not on the Burchett bandwagon.

The event is Tuesday, Feb. 18 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the scenic Lighthouse restaurant on Baum Drive.
