Forcing prison family members to pay for visitation via video means is not only punitive, but inhumane. Many of these prisoners are already serving extremely lengthy sentences, with no parole, for non-violent crimes. Michelle Alexander‘s book, The New Jim Crowe, gives one real insight into what the true motives are on incarceration, particularly of men of color. I would urge all Americans to read it, for this ultimately affects us all. As Martin Luther King Jr. said, “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.”
