Let's Try Again: A New 'Knoxville' Magazine

A North Carolina magazine publisher is leasing space downtown to launch a new city magazine for Knoxville.

Dan Shannon, publisher of glossy magazines in Durham and Chapel Hill, plans to relocate to Knoxville with his wife and partner Ellen Shannon. Gay Lyons will be the editor of the new publication, to be called Knoxville the Magazine. Lyons was an editor at a glossy mag known as Knoxville Magazine before it ceased publication.

Shannon’s company has 20 employees and he owns a weekly newspaper in Chapel Hill. The Knoxville magazine will launch in early 2014 and begin with an every-other-month publication schedule. It will feature dining, decorating, arts and entertainment, and in-depth personality profiles, with an emphasis on design and photography.
