Margaritas for Tourists

The news that Jimmy Buffett will be opening a Margaritaville restaurant in Pigeon Forge is touted as a result of the town voting in liquor by the drink in an election last week. It’s actually the reverse. The prospect of getting Buffett’s chain (and some other prospects) to Pigeon Forge was one of the drivers in getting a referendum to authorize liquor by the drink.

Many chain restaurants are already in Pigeon Forge, serving beer only. But Buffett’s company refused to follow through with the restaurant without liquor by the drink. The reason ought to be obvious.

Why would you go to Margaritaville if you can’t get a margarita?

There are 25 Margaritaville restaurants, primarily in tourist resorts and casinos in the islands, Mexico, and the United States.
