Ryan Reed’s cover story on Cruz Contreras and the Black Lillies was very informative and well written. [“Runaway Success,” March 14, 2013] I was privy to the early jam sessions and the recording of their debut CD at his North Knoxville home—I was a neighbor in the Armstrong Avenue duplex. Mr. Contreras was a polite neighbor who always let me know when they planned to be “making some noise.” I felt at the time that I was privy to jam sessions of a local band with a bright and promising future. As it turns out, I was right and I know of no other local band more deserving of the accolades. Congratulations to Knoxville’s Black Lillies and kudos to Ryan Reed for a great cover story! I will see you at the Tennessee Theatre on March 23.
