Knox County Mayor Tim Burchett got an award last week commending his administration for transparency. That would seem to be ironic since the News Sentinel is still suing to get copies of some of his e-mails.
The Sunshine Review, a national non-profit, grades governments on the information provided the public on its website from budgets, meetings, audits, contracts, public records and taxes. They awarded 250 government entities nationwide.
The News Sentinel suit to obtain some of Burchett’s e-mails will be the subject of a hearing April 12 in Blount County. (Knox jurists recused themselves.) County Law Director Bud Armstrong is arguing that the e-mails in question are personal, not public records. The newspaper disagrees.
