—State Rep. Gloria Johnson in a June 21 statement responding to the Tennessee State Board of Education’s approval of Gov. Bill Haslam’s proposal to eliminate most step increases in teacher pay, as well as revamping the minimum salary schedule. Education Commissioner Kevin Huffman says this will allow districts to develop their own merit pay schedules instead of using state-mandated ones.
