Quote of the Week: 'The buildings are a burden.'

"The buildings are a burden on St. John’s. We’re going to take them down..."

—Arthur Seymour, attorney for St. John’s Cathedral, voicing the church’s stance in John Flory’s Property Scope blog on two 1920s buildings it owns downtown. The church was given approval to demolish them (for expanded parking access) by the Metropolitan Planning Commission at a June 13 meeting. Downtown developer David Dewhirst had offered to refurbish the buildings as residences at no cost to the church.
