Did You Notice Your Savings?

Your grocery bill should have gone down this week, but you may not have noticed. Beginning Monday, the state sales tax on food dropped to 5 percent; it’s now 2 percent lower than the general state sales tax of 7 percent. (Local sales taxes are not affected.)

The sales tax reduction is on specific “food items.” Your candy, beer, deli sandwiches, diet supplements, and tobacco are not included, according to the Department of Revenue.
