Jumping to Conclusions

Dumb mistake or masterful public-relations coup?

Friends of Congressman Steve Cohen, D-Memphis, do not believe he was dumb enough to send messages to a young woman via his Congressional Twitter account and not realize they weren’t private. His texts to a young woman, including an “ilu,” which is Twitter-speak for “I love you,” prompted the state Republican Party to attack Cohen for using his Twitter account to romance a young woman and call him the “Weiner of the South.” (Congressman Anthony Weiner, D-New York, resigned after sending icky photos to a fan.)

Cohen’s message exchange occurred during the State of the Union address.

After being hammered, Cohen announced that Victoria Elizabeth Brink was actually his daughter and the messages were about her being thrilled to see him on television at the speech.
