'Southern Living' Loves Union Avenue

The positive national press continues to amass. But this week’s loving tribute is to a downtown street rather than the city as a whole. In its August issue, Southern Living magazine adds Union Avenue to its “Next Great Neighborhood” travel series. The article declares “This scenic street has gone from vacant to bustling thanks to a new crop of locally sourced shops and restaurants.” And indeed, Union Avenue’s revival has been remarkable, with the refurbishment of the Daylight Building, the addition of new storefronts below the Residences at Market Square, and the one-two punch of Tupelo Honey and Urban Outfitters moving into newly revamped spaces. Writer Caroline McKenzie highlights the Oliver Hotel, Coffee and Chocolate, Räla, and Reruns, as well as Tupelo Honey. If you’d like to read the article without having to buy the whole issue, the City of Knoxville has helpfully posted it on its website, cityofknoxville.org.
