UT or the Browns?

For whom is Jimmy Haslam recruiting a new coach?

National sports blogs have reported that Haslam has been in touch with ESPN analyst Jon Gruden, possibly about becoming the coach of his recently-purchased and struggling Cleveland Browns. But Gruden is also first on the list of some big University of Tennessee boosters to hire the former Super Bowl-winning coach to replace Derek Dooley.

The Haslam family as long been involved in UT Athletics (as in Haslam Field) and the hiring and firing of coaches.

Gruden has turned down coaching jobs in the past, either from disinterest or not enough money being offered. He was once an assistant coach at UT early in his career.

If Gruden runs true to form, he will enjoy being courted and stay in the broadcast booth.
