The race for the 4th District Congressional seat for 2014 has started.
Midstate Republicans have been gearing up for the race, with the idea that if Democratic state Sen. Eric Stewart upset the incumbent Congressman Scott DesJarlais they would try and get the seat back. If scandal-plagued incumbent DesJarlais were to squeak out a win, then he would definitely have a Republican opponent in his primary, given his vulnerability.
The likeliest Republicans to try for the seat are state Sen. Jim Tracy and state Sen. Bill Ketron. Tracy had said earlier he was considering the race and Ketron was considered a potential candidate when the senators redrew the district to include Ketron’s district.
It isn’t likely they both would run.
DesJarlais was hit with stories about two different women patients who said they had affairs with the doctor when he was separated from his first wife over a decade ago. The pro-life candidate was also hurt by a tape in which he urged one of the women to get an abortion.
