Bike to Work Day

7:30 a.m.-8:30 a.m., Market Square. Free.

Stop by Market Square on national Bike to Work Day for free breakfast. Prizes will be awarded to the best dressed bike commuters by Mayor Madeline Rogero.

Friday, May 18

6th Annual Art & Architecture Tour

5 p.m., Upstairs Gallery at the Bijou Theatre (803 S. Gay St.) $40.

Although Jack Neely looks forward to taking some time off from conducting downtown walking tours (see this issue’s Secret History), he’s doing it one more time along with Knox Heritage Executive Director Kim Trent. The featured stops on the tour are based on winning submissions to Knox Heritage’s photography contest.

Saturday, May 19

8th Annual Children’s Festival of Reading

10 a.m.-3 p.m, World’s Fair Lawn. Free.

The Knox County Public Library hosts this mother of all children’s festivals, with nationally award-winning authors and illustrators Alyssa Capucilli, Jennifer and Matthew Holm, Gail Carson Levine, Dan Yaccarino, David Ezra Stein, Dianne de Las Casas, and many more.

Sunday, May 20

Smoky Mountain Highland Games

6:30 p.m., Maryville College.

Starting on Friday, this three-day gathering of the clans centered on traditional Scottish athletic events and feats of strength but also including traditional food, music, and dancing.

Tuesday, May 22

Jazz on the Square

7 p.m, Market Square. Free.

Exactly what it sounds like! Featuring some of Knoxville’s finest jazz players.
