The Public Trust PAC has taken its first position on an issue, rather than endorsing candidates for office. The Public Trust PAC is led by former state Sen. Ben Atchley and retired University of Tennessee President Joe Johnson, and was formed to interview candidates and make recommendations to the voters on their qualifications.
This time the group has endorsed the budget proposal put forward by the school board asking for $35 million per year more in funding. County Mayor Tim Burchett did not include the amount in his budget proposal. The final number will be decided by the County Commission.
The Public Trust PAC joins the Knoxville Chamber in backing the increased funding for education, which likely would require a tax increase to fund.
