Jefferson County School Board Missing a Candidate

Suppose you had an election and no one ran? Serving on a school board is a thankless job, but usually someone will volunteer to do it.

The qualifying deadline to run for the Jefferson County school board passed and no one filed a petition to run for one seat, in the district running from the Knox County line to the outskirts of Jefferson City, along each side of Andrew Johnson Highway.

Annette Loy, a retired teacher, had held the seat for a term but decided not to seek re-election.

The election commission says two people have since contacted the county and filled out a form asking that if they get any write-in votes that they be counted and assering that they would be willing to serve.

The school board and County Commission have been embroiled in a bitter fight for several years over funding for new schools.
