Knox County Commissioner Jeff Ownby missed a meeting of the Commission last week, just a few days after he was arrested on Sharp’s Ridge for indecent exposure with another man.
If Ownby had attended the workshop, it might have been awkward in more ways than one. Commissioners, on a rotating basis, are responsible for providing for a devotional to open the meeting. Some invite a minister to come in, but some commissioners lead a prayer themselves.
At last week’s meeting it was Ownby’s turn to offer the prayer.
Ownby did turn up for the Commission meeting this week for a vote on the county budget. The school board did secure enough votes for a veto-proof majority, but it was for a $7 million increase, rather than the $35 million bump requested.
