Derby Daiquiri

* 1 ounce fresh orange juice

* 1/2 ounce fresh lime juice

* 1/2 ounce sugar syrup

* 1 1/2 ounces white Puerto Rican rum

Blend with a handful of crushed ice for 15 seconds or until smooth.

I make them by the pitcher for hot summer days. Very light and refreshing.

Invented by Mai-Kai mixologist Mariano Licudine for the Florida Gulfstream Derby.

My own concoction:

The Headshrinker

3 oz Pineapple Juice

1 oz Hiram Walker Coffee Brandy

1/4 oz Lemon Juice

2 oz Myer's

1/2 tsp Cinnamon Infused Syrup

Lemon Zest garnish

Blend for a few seconds with crushed ice and pour into snifter glass. Add more crushed ice.

Inspired by the Mai-Kai Black Magic.

A traditional Tiki drink with three rums blended:

Navy Grog

1 oz Light Puerto Rican Rum

1 oz Dark Jamaican Rum

1 oz Demerara Rum

3/4 oz Lime Juice

3/4 oz White Grapefruit Juice

1 oz Honey Syrup

1 oz Club Soda

Heat equal parts honey and water in the microwave and mix them together to make the syrup. Do not heat it to boiling! Shake with ice. Stir in rums and soda. Pour into glass filled with crushed ice.
