Hunley Likes McMillan

Steve Hunley has been establishing himself as a go-to guy in politics in east and north Knox County and countywide. The publisher of the Knoxville Focus is not bashful about candidates he supports.

This week his east Knox County paper has a photo of East Knox County school board member Mike McMillan shaking hands with County Mayor Tim Burchett at the new Carter Elementary School ground-breaking and a two-line bold face headline above the photo stretches all the way across the top of page one: “Mayor Burchett: New School Not Possible Without Mike McMillan.”

In East Knox County, community leader Conley Underwood, who is running for school board against McMillan, is credited for leading the effort to organize the community in support of the school. But Underwood is not likely to get a page-wide two-line headline touting his accomplishment.

Hunley also was a big booster of newly-elected Knoxville Mayor Madeline Rogero, who got her share of headlines, and is supporting Phil Ballard for tax assessor and Bud Armstrong for law director.

Hunley's newspaper is distributed throughout Knoxville and Knox County, not just East Knoxville, and has been for some time.
