Bill Haslam, in a letter to the state GOP’s executive committee, reassuring them that “there is no effort by the Haslam administration, the State of Tennessee, or any agency or department of the State to promote or advance Shariah law...” Several GOP groups had criticized Haslam for supposed Islamic influences in his administration, such as daring to hire someone with the name “Samar Ali” in the state’s Department of Economic and Community Development.
