Media ad revenues in general have suffered in recent years, but local broadcast television station managers should buy lunch for former State Sen. Jamie Woodson and Mark Padgett.
Woodson’s resignation from the state Senate set up a Republican primary special election that had Becky Duncan Massey buying television advertising during what would have been an off-year for state elections.
Padgett injected prodigious fund-raising into what could have been an invisible mayoral race. His spending, and his forcing others, like Madeline Rogero, to keep pace, will make the bottom line this quarter look a lot better for the stations.
