Knox County has severed ties with Natural Resources Recovery; the company has completed the purchase of the county property it had been using under contract to take green waste from around the county.
The county Solid Waste Department will be seeking Requests for Proposals over the next couple of months to find multiple vendors at strategic locations around the county rather than the previous one site in West Knox County. Having multiple vendors cuts down on hauling, saves gas, and prevents one huge mulch pile with its attendant problems.
NRR was the center of controversy when its contract came up for renewal. The Solid Waste Department had allowed them to skip royalty payments to the county. The Burchett administration has not renewed the latest contract and has been seeking other solutions.
