Looking for a way to burn off some of those Turkey Day calories? Try the WDVX Holiday Hoe-Down on Market Square’s big stage—just around the corner from the annual lighting of the Regal Celebration of Lights in the Krutch Park Extension at 6 p.m.—on Friday, Nov. 25, starting at 5:30 p.m. Singer/songwriter Logan Murrell kicks off the music, followed by the Green Carpet Players, the Step Above Dancers, and Blount County string band Pistol Creek Catch of the Day. Admission is free.
Or, later that night, dance and cry to the emotional glam-rock at the center of Chris Hamblin’s new original production of John Cameron Mitchell’s Hedwig and the Angry Inch. The first shows are Friday, Nov. 25, and Saturday, Nov. 26, at 7 p.m. at Pilot Light, with performances Thursday through Saturday, Dec. 1-3 and 8-11. Admission is $20.
Or mosh the excess away on Saturday, Nov. 26, at an all-night, four-band set of local metal at American Legion Post 13 in Maryville, starring DownSlave, Divided We Stand, WarClown, and Psychosystem. The Spanksgivin’ Metal Beatdown Fanfare No More Turkey Party starts at 5 p.m. Tickets are $10 in advance or $12 at the door.
