It’s going to be a big couple of weeks for Knoxville’s Royal Bangs. The synth-rock trio, whose national profile has gotten steadily bigger with its last two albums, will release its third full-length, Flux Outside, on Glassnote Records on March 29. The band will preview the new disc with two performances at SXSW, the venerable industry showcase in Austin, Texas, this month, and will appear on The Late Show With David Letterman on Friday, April 1. The last time a Knoxville band played late-night network TV, in 1997, it was after midnight (on Conan O’Brien’s Late Night) and that was the V-Roys backing Steve Earle—so this is a big deal.

I think Robinella and the CCstringband were on "Late Night With Conan O'Brien" in February 2003. Still, the Bangs appearance is huge.
