Gov. Haslam's New Education Commissioner

Would your ex give you a good job recommendation?

Last month the News Sentinel reported that Gov. Bill Haslam consulted various national education experts while seeking a Commissioner of Education, one of whom was Michelle Rhee, the former superintendent of the Washington, D.C. school system. Rhee was featured as one of the heroes in the hit documentary film about education called Waiting for Superman. Shaking up the moribund capital school system angered teachers, and once a new mayor was elected, she was fired.

This week the Nashville Post notes in passing that new education commissioner Kevin Huffman is the ex-husband of Rhee. The couple have two children. They met while both worked at Teach for America.
