In an age when technology allows us to pump gas into our cars without ever having to enter a store, it’s easy to take the convenience of the transaction for granted. You swipe your card, fill your gas tank, and take the receipt after it prints. But even the most advanced gas pumping technology is fallible, and its malfunctions can cause unexpected behavior.
Knoxville Police responded to an assault call at the Spring Hill Market on Rutledge Pike on Friday, Feb. 25, around 10:15 a.m. Angry that the gas pump would not print a receipt for his gas, the suspect confronted the cashier, who tried to explain that the pump was out of paper. Unsatisfied by her explanation, the frustrated customer suddenly decided to take action by grabbing the closest object he could find: a can of smokeless tobacco. He then threw it at the complainant before fleeing the scene.
Fortunately, the only thing injured was the can of snuff.
