Discover the Secret City Festival

While we’re fond of Knoxville sobriquets like Marble City and Scruffy Little City, you have to admit that Oak Ridge has pretty much the coolest civic nickname around. And they wield it proudly, most notably in the name of the Secret City Festival. The annual summer celebration takes place this Friday and Saturday, the 17th and 18th, in and around downtown Oak Ridge.

For a full listing of events, you can go to secretcityfestival.com. Besides the typical array of children’s activities and musical performances (plus “world record juggler” Bruce Sarafian), there are some offerings that remind you what was so secret about the city in the first place: a World War II historical reenactment in Bissell Park; a retrospective look at the U-2 incident of 1960; and tours of the Y-12 National Security Complex and a graphite reactor at Oak Ridge National Laboratory.
