Not a Crowded Ballot for City Elections

The deadline for filing to run in the city election this year is one week away, Thursday, June 16 at noon, and the list of City Council candidates does not reflect an overwhelming interest.

In District Five, as of this writing, the only candidate remains Mark Campen, who served a partial term after being appointed to County Commission.

Former state Sen. Bill Owen has been unopposed for At-Large Seat B. He has picked up an opponent, Buck Cochran, a frequent candidate for various offices.

John Stancil and Michael McBath and George Wallace are running for at-large Seat A.

At-large Seat C has Finbarr Saunders, a former Knox County Commissioner, versus Sharon Welch.

The mayor’s race has settled in; the question seems to be whether Madeline Rogero will face Mark Padgett or Ivan Harmon in a run-off, or whether she can win outright with over 50 percent in the primary.
