If you want a chance to see our local state representatives and senators up close, you can do it this Saturday, courtesy of the East Tennessee chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists. The group is hosting a Legislative Preview Luncheon on Jan. 29 at Calhoun’s on Bearden Hill, 6615 Kingston Pike, beginning at 11:30 a.m.
Not surprisingly, given the makeup of the new Legislature and the electoral leanings of East Tennessee, 14 of the 16 legislators invited are Republicans. Those already confirmed to attend are Sen. Jamie Woodson, Rep. Bill Dunn, Rep. Harry Tindell, Rep. Steve Hall and Rep. Ryan Haynes. Of those, Tindell is the sole Democrat.
Anyone may attend. The event is free, but if you want to eat the buffet lunch that will be served starting at noon, it will be $15. A panel discussion of legislative issues will begin at 12:30, moderated by Don Dare of WATE Channel 6. To make meal reservations, contact ETSPJ President Elenora E. Edwards at 457-5459 or at firstname.lastname@example.org
