Winners Chosen in Opera Auditions

Five singers chosen from a field of 37

The Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions for the Middle/East Tennessee District were held on Saturday, Jan. 8, in the James R. Cox Auditorium on the University of Tennessee campus. From a field of 37 singers, five winners were chosen: bass-baritone John Arnold; bass Joseph Beutel; baritone Thomas Florio; soprano Lacy Sauter; and soprano Amanda Woodbury. Arnold was a member of the UT Opera Theatre and the Knoxville Opera Studio.

The five winners will compete in the Mid-South Region competition that will be held in Memphis on Feb. 5. Regional Met Opera audition winners go to New York later in the spring for the semifinal and final competitions.
