Meet Your 5th District Councilperson (Maybe It's You!)

With the selection of an acting mayor out of the way, City Council’s next order of business is filling the seat of soon-to-depart Vice Mayor Bob Becker, who represents the North Knoxville 5th District. Council will appoint someone from a pool of applicants to fill out the rest of Becker’s term, which expires in December. Any resident of the 5th District over the age of 21 can apply, but you’d better do it soon: the deadline is Tuesday, Jan. 18. Council will hold a special meeting on Thursday, Jan. 20, to consider the applications and make its selection.

Among those who have expressed interest in the seat so far are Renée Hoyos, executive director of the Tennessee Clean Water Network; local attorney Charlie Thomas, who ran for an at-large Council seat in 2003; and Bill Rolen. The short applications are available in the City Council office, room 460 of the City County Building. Call 215-2075 for information.
