Hoyos and Williams Seek to Take the 5th

While there is no shortage of possible candidates to serve as acting mayor after Bill Haslam leaves next week, the only names to surface so far to fill out Vice Mayor Bob Becker’s term in the 5th City Council District are Renée Victoria Hoyos, executive director of the Tennessee Clean Water Network, and Chuck Williams, who ran a distant third in a state Senate race last year. Becker is stepping down later this month, and Council will choose his successor from among a pool of applicants. The term expires in December. Hoyos moved to Knoxville from California in 2003, and has made a name locally as an environmental advocate. Any adult resident of the 5th District can fill out a one-page application for the seat. Forms are available in the City Council office, room 460 of the City County Building.
