Meet Your Electric-Vehicle Future

The electric cars are coming! As detailed in a Metro Pulse cover story a few weeks back, Knoxville will be among the first cities in the country with a network of charging stations for electric vehicles. And to go with the charging stations, of course, we need the cars. You can get a sneak peek—and a test drive—of one of those doohickeys this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at World’s Fair Park, where Nissan will be showcasing its much-hyped Leaf.

The Leaf is a four-door hatchback that runs on a lithium-ion battery (just like the Starship Enterprise), and can reportedly reach speeds of 90 mph. It will reportedly run for 75-100 miles per battery charge. Nissan reps will be at World’s Fair Park from 7 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday. To register for a test drive, go to drivenissanleaf.com, and click on “Events.”
