Local Supporters Line Up for Republican Presidential Candidates

You may think the Tennessee presidential primary in March is irrelevant; several big states are having primaries the same day and will likely get all the attention. But that doesn’t mean we should just let the occasion slide—we can always make it a drinking game.

Forget which candidate wins, the fun contest will be who else will win. Will Campfield defeat the Haslams? Can Ramsey sell “Oops” Perry?

Just to update your scorecard: Republican establishment candidate Mitt Romney has Jim Haslam, Ted Welch, and Jimmy Haslam leading his effort in Tennessee—that would be the Tennessee establishment.

Lt. Gov. Ron Ramsey is leading the effort for Rick Perry.

Former Knoxville mayor Victor Ashe is on board with John Huntsman.

Newt Gingrich, the new frontrunner in the latest polls, has state Sen. Stacy Campfield and state Rep. Tony Shipley leading his effort. Welch and the Haslams have money, but Campfield has a blog.

Herman Cain was about to get several legislators in his corner before his campaign flamed out.

We’re sure Michelle Bachmann and Rick Santorum have some support somewhere in the state.
