Knox Heritage is hosting this forum for mayoral and City Council candidates, focusing on historic preservation issues and policies.

The Cooking Show con Karimi & Comrades

7 p.m., Knoxville Botanical Gardens and Arboretum. $20. (Also at 7 p.m. Sunday.)

Carpetbag Theater presents a live cooking performance with Chef Mero Cocinero.

Friday, Aug. 26

Erick Baker

8 p.m., Bijou Theatre. $19.50.

Local singer/songwriter will perform songs from his 2010 solo debut.

Saturday, Aug. 27

James McMurtry with Leticia Wolf

8 p.m., The Shed (Maryville). $20.

McMurtry’s hard-edged country/blues-rock is sometimes novelistic, sometimes fiercely political.

Tuesday, Aug. 30

Young Professional Mayoral Debate

6:30-9 p.m., Knoxville Museum of Art.

Mayoral candidates will meet, greet, and then (from 8-9) debate for an audience of Knoxville’s young professionals. (You do not need to be young or professional to attend.)
