Market Square Chef Challenge: La Costa vs. Oodles

It will once again be La Costa vs. Oodles in a fourth annual head-to-head Market Square Chef Challenge Saturday, Aug. 13. Chef David Quick, a 24-year old Seymour native and graduate of Walters State Community College will do the honors for La Costa. The line cook who began at Bayou Bay in South Knoxville and did a run through Abattoir in Atlanta says he has an unusual choice of fave local ingredient: “Tomatoes are everyone’s number one favorite, mine happens to be either radishes or carrots, all assorted colors,” says Quick. He’ll be pitted against Oodles’ Chefs Karl McKim and David Howard in the contest; each restaurant’s chef will receive $40 in farmers’ market currency and an hour to shop for ingredients to create a three-course meal for two. Shopping begins at 10, cooking at 11, and judging and auction of the prepared meals to the public start at noon.
