There are three people from Knoxville who have applied to join the Judicial Selection Committee, the group that selects judge candidates to recommend to the governor. A position comes open on Sept. 1 and there are 33 applicants thus far
Applying are Jason Leigh Hunnicutt, an assistant district attorney in Knoxville; Weldon Patterson, who has a civil litigation practice in Knoxville; and June Heath Jones who lists her occupation as self-employed/housewife.
The committee has 17 members, eight appointed by Lt. Gov. Ron Ramsey and eight appointed by House Speaker Beth Harwell and one appointed jointly by the two.
The committee screens candidates for judgeships and submits three candidates to the governor for his final selection.
