Becky Duncan Massey Considers Run for Woodson's Senate Seat

Becky Duncan Massey has been a successful executive and is an experienced campaigner. She is the driving force behind the Duncan barbecue, a premier political gathering. But when it comes to public office, she has deferred to her brother, Congressman Jimmy Duncan, and her nephew, County Trustee John Duncan III.

But that may change. Massey is talking with friends around town about pursuing the state Senate seat being vacated by Jamie Woodson. That’s the seat that Marilyn Roddy is pursuing after dropping out of the mayoral race.

Massey spent time in Nashville last week, ostensibly to attend a Girl Scout banquet. As executive director of Sertoma, she is familiar with the Legislature and how it works.

But is it one Duncan too far? Considering the vote totals for her brother and nephew, maybe not.
