The new, extended library hours announced by County Mayor Tim Burchett when he took office are going into effect this week. As a result, library branches around the county will be open a total of 177.5 more hours per week. Downtown, for example, Lawson McGhee Library is now open 9 a.m.-8 p.m. Monday-Thursday, 9 a.m.-5:30 p.m. on Friday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. on Saturday, and 1-5 p.m. on Sunday. Branches now open until 8 p.m. at least two nights a week include Bearden, Burlington, Cedar Bluff, Farragut, Fountain City, Halls, North Knoxville, Norwood, Powell, and South Knoxville.
So if you haven’t been to your local library in a while, it could be a good time to (wait for it) check things out. (But not this Thursday and Friday; all Knox County libraries are closed for Thanksgiving.)
